TotalFinder enables this display by toggle of a keyboard shortcut. The feature is disabled by default, but is especially helpful upon enabling it for those who desire a Visor-based workflow. However, some users prefer to see folders first and then files regardless of the actual sorting options. The idea is to have one dedicated TotalFinder window open at all times. The most interesting feature of TotalFinder to me however, “Visor.” Visor is a system-wide TotalFinder window displaying at the bottom of the screen. Coops ps I mostly use and like column view, and have dragged links to the side of my most common used folders for easy access - so the lack of tree view is not too painful. I use Pathfinder, but will be keeping an eye on Totalfinder - looks very promising. In addition, TotalFinder allows for sorting of folders (a feature Finder lacks). 'Folders on top' only works in list view for now, unfortunately. TotalFinder uses Chrome-style tabs and enables Folders on Top. There are plenty of preferences for customization and support for hotkeys. This Mac file browser is regularly updated and supports dual-pane viewing, with remappable keyboard shortcuts. See the files that were most recently edited. To reverse the order, click the up arrow or down arrow. You may click on the arrow mark on top of the Date Modified which will arrange the folders wither in ascending or descending order. Click on Date Modified, which will arrange the files according to the oldest or the latest. To the top Right corner click the drop down arrow. TotalFinder also affords one the option of “Dual mode.” Dual mode is a special mode when TotalFinder displays two Finder windows side-by-side. TotalFinder TotalFinder is an add-on for Finder that’s intuitive and easy to use. In the top right, click the title of the current sort, like 'Name' or 'Last modified.' Click on the type of sorting you want. Open the window where you need to sort the folders. Drag folder in between tabs to open given folder as a new tab.Drag file or folder on to a tab to move it.Double-click the tab to enter dual-mode.Drag the tab and insert it between other tabs in existing window.Pull the tab out into separate a window.TotalFinder improves the current functionality of Finder by adding tabs to one’s existing Finder, making one more productive by enhancing workflow. It's infuriorating to have to do over and over again, so I hope that this is addressed soon.TotalFinder ($15) is an app that takes the usefulness of Finder and adds some extremely helpful features. This resets the view for me to Arrange by Kind, Sort by Name.īut, yes, in Mavericks, it's only a matter of time before it re-sorts itself into some ungodly random arrangement. Option + Click on the button, and re-select Sort by Name.Option + Click on the button, and select Sort by Kind.Click on the button, and re-select Arrange by Kind.Click on the button, and select Arrange by Name.In the meantime, I have found this strategy to be the quickest way to get a folder back to this view: It's such a clear, obvious way to arrange and sort files, I can't understand why it's not the default and why it is impossible to make this view stick. Mavericks has made it much worse, as it continually forgets this preference for folders I've already set to Arrange by Kind, Sort by Name. I've had this issue ever since they introduce " Arrange by.", as for whatever reason, there's never been a way to save this view option for all folders. Has anyone else experienced this problem and does anyone know how the **** to fix it, because I'm going nuts constantly having to rearrange my files since Mavericks is apparently too stupid to do it properly. Sooner or later, Mavericks decides to forget the order of the **** alphabet and arranges the files in a completely bizarre way that makes no logical sense whatsoever. I've tried Arrange By None and Sort By Kind or Sort By Name and still it doesn't freaking work. So I tried Arrange By Name and Sort By Kind only to have it STILL get screwed up. I have tried Arrange By Kind and Sort By Name only later to have the alphabetical arrangement completely screwed up. This should not be complicated and I've been able to do it just fine on past versions of OSX, but with Mavericks it's apparently become impossible. I like my files to be arranged in a very simple format-separated by file type, then alphabatized within that file type and with folders appearing at the top. I have no idea what the **** is going on with Finder since the upgrade to Mavericks, but I do know that it has become royally frustrating!
